The world famous cone shaped Chocolate Hills are some of the most picturesque sites in the world. These Chocolate Hills create an unusual geological formation giving an impression that half of the ball is grown out of the ground. This World Heritage Site and the nation’s third National Geological Monument are actually limestone hills which are entirely covered with grass. These hills are named as ‘Chocolate Hills’ as during the dry season the lush green covering of grass turns chocolate brown. There is no solid proof of reason for the formation of hills but there is a peculation that the hills are formed due to the uplift of coral deposition and continuous action of erosion and rain water.
